• Kodiak Bears live only on the islands of the Kodiak Archipelago.

• Male Kodiak Bears are called boars, Female Kodiak Bears are called sows and baby Kodiak Bears are called cubs.

• Kodiak Bear cubs are born in Janurary and February.

• Kodiak Bear cubs weigh less than one pound at birth.

• Kodiak Bears have been isolated from other bears for 12,000 years.

• There is about 3,000 Kodiak Bears.

• Kodiak Bears are the largest bears in the world, standing at 10 feet tall on their hind legs.

• Kodiak Bears can weigh up to 1,500 pounds.

• The oldest Kodiak Bear was 34 years old.

• Litter sizes are typically 2-3 cubs.

• Kodiak cubs stay with their mothers for three years.

• Kodiak Bears can sleep for up to 8 months without eating or drinking.

• Kodiak Bears eat grass, berries and plants as well as meat.

• Mating season for Kodiak Bears is from May to June.
